{Swearing warning, because of Lovino}

When the knocking on the door started again the next day, I really didn’t want to get up. I pretended to still be asleep as Mei slowly got up and carefully tried crawling over me so she wouldn’t wake me up. She answered the door and told whoever was there to give us another hour. Mei woke up the other girls then came back over to the bed.

“{Name}, time to wake up.”

“Kay.”

Mei helped me get up and dragged me to the bathroom, and did the same thing Victoria did yesterday. It took a little bit more time, but I woke up again. I went to the bedroom and got changed along with everyone else, in clean beach clothes. We all still had skirts with our swimsuits underneath, it being our last day at the beach.

Elizabeta and Mei started on the pancake breakfast. We were going to drive back home through the night, so it was best to use up most of the food today. I helped Victoria roll up all the sleeping bags and pack all our luggage so we would leave when we got back to the RV late. I heard the storage underneath the RV open and I knew the guys were packing up as well. After the inside was all finished, I opened the door, giving my best normal face, though my hair was wet again. Kiku-san came in first and helped Victoria make some lunch, while I had the job of packing the lunch in boxes. While the last few pancakes were being made, Alfred packed a cooler of food for our BBQ at the beach.

We again had dinner in our normal places, and Mei kept me smiling, lifting my mood without me knowing. After cleaning up and doing last minute packing, we all set out towards Oceanbay Beach for the last time. The bus picked us up once again, the bus driver being genuinely surprised by all the stuff we were carrying. Alfred was in charge of the cooking grate that we would need for the BBQ, Ludwig was carrying the umbrella, and the food being carried between Feliciano and Lovino.

“What are we going to do at the beach now?” Victoria asked, sitting to my left, looking out the window behind us.

“We’re going farther north than last time. There’s going to be lots of driftwood, and I saw another large climbing boulder.”

“We were pretty far away last time. About how tall was it?” Mei asked. I knew she probably wouldn’t trust me after nearly falling from last time.

“Only around thirty feet. I won’t fall again, I swear. And if you don’t trust me, I’ll climb around on driftwood, okay?”

“I trust you. Just not on anything with coordination. You trip a lot normally.”

“Hey! I only fell because we had to take a different route down, and because the rock broke off.”

The bus dropped us off at the part of the beach, where you couldn’t go any farther north, due to a large cliff. As our group was walking to the cliff, I noticed something odd about some driftwood. On one log of driftwood, someone had put one very long board over it, creating a seesaw.

“Mei, do you want to try this?” I asked, knowing she would be nervous about it.

“Ummm...I don’t know.”

“I’ll prove to you I have good coordination.” I made Mei go on one end of the wooden board as Elizabeta took pictures. As Mei was lighter than me, when I got on the other end, Mei wobbled as she was raised up.

“{Name}! Get me down!” Mei squealed towards me, trying to keep her balance.

“Move closer to the center!” The closer Mei inched towards the log in the center, the farther I went in the air, keeping nearly perfect balance.

“How do we get off?” Mei asked me, once she had made both end completely equal.

“Slowly sit down, then we both slide off, since our feet will be touching the ground.” Mei did what I asked of her and we safely got down.

“Dudettes, that was epic! Anyone want to try that with me?” Alfred looked at all of us, but no-one really volunteered until I laughed.

“I’ll try it again. You have to move slowly though.”

I survived the seesaw with Alfred, and we slowly went on, leaving before Feliciano decided to try. We found a good area for a camp with lots of driftwood around and Ludwig set up the umbrella. Us girls ran towards the waves, happy the last day was this warm. We were close to the large boulder I had seen last time, so we all tossed our shoes on one of the rock steps and went on to the surf. Victoria ran in first, as always, and dived down underneath the waves. She popped back up a bit further out and called back to us.

“The water’s amazing! Come on it!” Mei and Elizabeta each grabbed a hand and dragged me in.

“Stop, it’s cold!” I squealed, laughing either way.

Once they let go of my hands, I started a little splashing war between us. Victoria escaped by swimming farther out than our waves could reach. Mei and I started to shiver, so we ran back out of the water, to the edge of the surf, and let the sun warm us off.

“Hey, {Name}, want to try climbing that boulder?” Elizabeta pointed over to this massive rock formation, a few feet away from the massive cliff that marked the end of the beach.

“I can make it in a heartbeat!” I grabbed my sandals and started climbing on the boulder. There was one large flat area, about seven feet from above the ground which was very easy to reach by the stairs that were worn into the stone. I looked down and waved down to Mei, who was carefully watching me from the ground. “Come on Mei, the view’s amazing!”

Mei carefully followed up. Once she reached the little landing, I went off to the point of the boulder, the tallest part that is on the said that looks out towards the ocean. Mei crawled next to me and we made ourselves comfortable on our new vantage point.

“Mei.”

“Yes?”

“I’ll ask him about the necklace. After lunch, I’ll give it to him, and ask him.”

“And is there a Plan B if my hypothesis is wrong?”

I look over at Mei, who was completely serious and concerned about me. I wrapped an arm around her and gave her a quick hug. “If you’re wrong...We bake a huge chocolate cake when we get back.”

“What time is it now?”

“Almost lunch, I’m guessing. Let’s wait here until we are called down. Could use some peace and quiet.”

“It’s sad how fast the trip went by,” Mei muttered, stretching out and lying down comfortably in our little rock seats.

“It’s too bad. I liked all of us travelling. As long as I don’t have Feli waking up next to me each time their tent breaks,” I laughed and stretched out, like Mei, in the sun. “Still wonder about that though. How could the support break like that? Not like it got wet or anything. Really weird.”

“Mei-chan, {Name}-chan! Come down for runch!” I heard Kiku-san calling for us.

“Coming!” I shouted back, “Let’s go, Mei.”

Mei and I slowly made our way down the rocks and down to the beach. Elizabeta and Victoria were helping the guys put the final touches on our ‘camp’. They had gathered large pieces of driftwood from around the area and created a hut. The hut had three wall and a nice roof, with driftwood benches on the sides on the walls. The firepit was already nicely made for this evening, a few feet away from the hut. Everyone’s stuff was inside the hut and Kiku-san was passing around the food. I scooted into the hut to the bench where Elizabeta and Victoria had claimed. Lovino was somehow across from me, and from the glances I stole from him, he looked odd to me. A mixture between anger, relief, but mostly sadness. I ate along with Mei and made sure to keep a normal expression all through lunch.

Lunch went by pretty quick, and the guys slowly went off to either have some fun swimming in the open ocean, or to gather driftwood for tonight BBQ. I was about to head off, when Kiku-san stopped me.

“Yes, what is it, Kiku-san?” I asked, trying to make it seem normal, when in fact, I was very anxious to talk to Lovino.

“I stirl have some mochi reft over, if you want to have it before it get bad,” He told me, holding out the little bag of mochi.

“Thank Kiku-san! I’ll eat them in a minute!” I had the mochi in one hand, and grabbed the necklace from my bag with the other. I caught Lovino stripping some larger branches off a piece of driftwood with the help of his knife. “Hey, Lovino, can I talk to you? Umm, in private?”

Lovino looked at me in surprise, but followed me to the gap in between the cliff and the large boulder. After a bit of fidgeting with the bag of mochi slowly thawing in my hand, I turned to face Lovino, the necklace digging into my palm as I held it tightly.

“Lovino...I, um, found this over at the boardwalk...After you left...” I held out my hand with the necklace in it. He looked shocked to see that I had it in my hand. “I wanted to know...why you had it with you...”

He turned bright red once again. “Uh, well, um, I saw it at the antique store...and I bought it...for...a girl back home...I wanted...to ask you if she would like it. See...it’s embarrassing to ask that...That I don’t know what the girl likes....”

My entire heart shattered at this. Mei and I were wrong. Completely and utterly wrong! I slowly gave him the necklace back as tears started to come to my eyes. “I see...Well, it’s a beautiful necklace, and I’m sure she will love it.” Here come the tears. I sniffed a little, and Lovino looked up, suddenly realizing that I was crying.

“Bella, what’s-,” He reached out to touch my cheek when I jumped away suddenly.

“I’m sorry!” I used a hand to cover up my eyes and ran off, trying to find a private place to let my tears run free. I needed to find Mei.

<<Mei’s Point Of View>>

I watched with surprise as {Name} ran off with tears streaming down her face while Lovino watched in surprised before looking very angry at himself and muttering something in Italian. The only word I could pick out from his muttering was ‘amo’. I stayed down low in my vantage point on the large boulder, where I was able to hear and watch the entire event unfold.

“After all my hard work, this isn’t the way it is supposed to end!” I whispered to my partner in crime, who was sitting behind me. “He is such a hard head! It’s only two freaking word in Italian!”

After Lovino finally wandered off, I crawled back to where my partner in crime was waiting for me with some Pocky, which I gladly took one.

“Kiku-san, I think it’s time we start Plan B. Did you bring it?”

“Hai, Mei-chan. I can easiry bring it up during dessert. Arfred-san wirl be very excited to see them.”

“And no questions will be asked. Do you think it will actually work?” I asked, taking another Pocky to chew on.

“It works in the manga arl the time. We just need to set the atmosphere.”

<<Reader’s POV>>

After finding a new ledge in the rock boulder to hide away in, and after watching Lovino stalk down the beach and out of sight, I used my time alone to eat some of the mochi Kiku-san had handed me. It didn’t have any sand in it yet, so I ate the tasty stuff, without caring much about what flavours there were.

Mei found me after a while, and joined me in the crevice, watching everyone else play in the ocean. She didn’t say much, but just stayed by me, somehow knowing what had happened. We watched Elizabeta and Victoria build a small sand castle a few feet away from the waves, with a proper moat to catch the water every time the waves came close to the castle. It was funny watching them battle against the tide, but it could barely put more than a small smile on my face.

“Hey, {Name}! Want to help us make a castle?” Victoria called to me.

Mei looked up at me expectantly, then gave me a small nudge. “It’ll feel better after awhile, you need to get back to normal.”

I stood up, ate the last mochi from the bag, then took off my shoes and placed them over the bag, so I could remember to throw it away when I finished playing in the ocean. The world didn’t need another dead turtle.

Mei was right though, it did feel better getting back to normal. Elizabeta and Victoria had a small shovel each from somewhere, so they handed Mei and myself the buckets, to dig out a larger moat, while they worked on the actual castle, running between the castle and farther up the beach, their hands filled with smooth rocks to strengthen the castle walls.

We had made a decent sized moat, when Mei looked over to the ocean and squealed a little, trying to make it up the beach. I looked back and saw a larger wave approaching. I jumped up and followed Mei, the wave only reaching my calves. Once I was clear, Elizabeta and Victoria joined us in looking back over the ruins of what was left of our castle.

“It seems Mother Nature was not kind to our fair kingdom,” Elizabeta announced, throwing down the two rocks she had in her hands. Our castle was nothing more that a small mound of sand and a large depression where the large moat used to be.

“It seems the moat could not hold back the advancing waves,” Victoria said with equal severity.

“Oh well,” was Mei reaction, which made me smile.

“It’s nearly time for dinner, you guys want to go collecting more driftwood?” Elizabeta asked us.

“Sure, nothing else to do once it gets darker.” Victoria kicked the ruins of the sand castle one last time before leading us back up towards the camp to hunt among driftwood for small enough pieces we could use in the fire. I remembered to grab my shoes and the empty bag that used to hold mochi so I could put it in the empty cooler, also known as the garbage carrier.

At the camp, Alfred had started preparing the food, everyone else still playing in the ocean. Elizabeta and Victoria went out to hunt for firewood, while Mei went to help Alfred with the food. I was left at the fire pit, setting up the kindling and trying to get the fire to start. Luckily, Ludwig had remembered to bring the lighter, so I didn’t have to rub two sticks together until I got a spark.

Once Elizabeta and Victoria had brought over a large pile of driftwood, and had brought an emergency bucket of water nearby, Alfred and Mei started the BBQ. I kept the fire going, using a fire poking stick wherever the cooks needed a larger fire. Slowly but surely, the guys came back to wait in the hut for dinner. Lovino showed up last, and he awkwardly sat down without a word. We didn’t make any eye contact, but luckily, no-one noticed our silence, as they were too into their own conversations.

After dinner, we all had some kind of sweet snack for dessert, myself sharing some chocolate with Mei, when Kiku-san addressed Alfred.

“Arfred-san? Since it is getting dark, I brought something for us.”

“Yeah Kiku? What is it?” Alfred asked, suddenly getting excited.

Kiku-san brought out a plastic bag and handed it to Alfred, who instantly lit up.

“Dude! You are awesome! How did you get these? Some of these aren’t even legal here!” Alfred ran out of the tent with the bag, and all of us followed, wondering what wonders were in the bag. “{Name}! Pass me the lighter you borrowed!”

I run back to my seat on the bench and grabbed the lighter. I went back to the group and tossed the lighter to Alfred. He caught it and kneeled on the sand in front of him.

“Fire in the hole!”

A few second later, a firework launched into the air and exploded in a burst. Everyone watched with their mouths open.

“Those can’t be legal!” Victoria cried.

“Then we just don’t get caught dudette!” Alfred laughed, like it was obvious. “Come on, {Name}, didn’t you say a few weeks ago that you haven’t had the chance to play with fireworks? Come here!”

I slowly went up to Alfred, who handed me something. “Now, be careful, don’t move while I light the sparkler.” Alfred flicked on the lighter and lit the tip of my sparkler and stepped back. For a moment, I thought I had a dud. Then, sparks erupted from the end. I gasped and held the sparkler at arms length away from me. As it kept burning, I watched it with fascination. It was so pretty! Soon it went out and everything was in darkness again. I found our water bucket and put it in the water.

Soon, everyone was playing with fireworks. Feliciano ran down the beach with a sparkler in his hand, followed by Elizabeta and Victoria. Alfred stayed in charge of lighting the ones that shot into the air (the ones that were illegal, because of how high they shot into the air). Ludwig lit a few Roman Candles for Mei and Francis, as I hung out to try my hand at firecrackers with Kiku-san instructing me. I just did one or three at a time, to make sure I could always find the debri and throw them in the bucket.

I had just gotten another sparkler and was about to light it when a figure came up to me. Just as I lit the sparkler, the figure grabbed me and dragged me a ways away from the group.

“Hey, what-” The figure’s sparkler came up and illuminated his face. It was Lovino. We were quiet for a moment, only the sparklers between us.

“Bella, I messed up.”

I looked up at Lovino. Tears were pricking at the edge of my eyes. Even in the faint light from the sparklers, I could see that he was red in the face.

“Don’t run away until I finished, si?”

I could only nod as Lovino struggled to continue.

“What I said earlier...wasn’t all the truth. Just hear me out, alright?...The girl...who I like...Has the most beautiful eyes...that shine brightly when they watch sparklers for the first time. She...she has hair that looks amazing when it catches an ocean breeze...And most importantly, when she laughs...when she laughs...I feel like I could listen to that sound for ages...Whether she is laughing at a joke, or laughing after she teased me...it’s the most beautiful sound in the world.”

At this point, tears were streaming down my face. Every word he said. Every single word was directed at me. He looked up at me, between the sparklers.

“Bella, any word I said to you was not meant to make you cry...I just messed up completely. I was too much of an idiot to admit...to admit that I had seen you look at that necklace at the shop...that I stayed behind to I could quickly buy it without anyone knowing that I did...That I was jealous when you were being so nice to mio fratello...or hanging out with the other guys, giving them all your attention, when your smile went to them, and not to me...Or how worried I was when I noticed your foot stuck on the hike... And that I was too much of an idiot to admit that I wanted to confess to you everytime that I was alone with you...Bella, ti amo! Ti amo più di quanto sappiate! I love you more than you know!”

Tears were flowing down my cheeks still as I looked into Lovino’s eyes. Though he was still red in the face, his eyes stayed in contact with mine.

“And now...Can I ask if you like me back?”

I let out a laugh. “You damned idiota! Even after everything, do you have to ask?”

Lovino stood stunned for a moment before dropping the sparkler on the sand and grabbing my shoulders. He mashed his lips on mine. For a moment, the kiss was very rough, before we both eased into it. The sounds of fireworks in the background slowly faded. We broke about after what seemed like an eternity. As another firework shot into the air, it illuminated both of us. The finished sparklers now lay at our feet, completely forgotten.

“Mio amore? If I may?” He pulled the necklace out of his pocket, the silver reflecting the light from the fireworks. I smiled again, and moved my hair away from my neck. As carefully as if he was touching a butterfly, he reached around my neck and fastened the necklace. When he finished, his hands slowly trailed along the silver chain. He took me into another embrace. I could hear his heart beating heavily in his chest, and I wondered if my heart was beating the same. Lovino pulled slightly apart and gave me the softest kiss on my forehead.

The only thought I had in my head was that nothing in the world could make this moment any better.

<<Mei’s POV>>

I cheered in my head. It worked! It worked perfectly!

I turned around to where Kiku-san was waiting for the results. I smiled brightly at him and whispered to him, “It worked! They confessed perfectly!”

Kiku-san smiled back. “I tord you it wourd work! It arways does!”

I turned back to {Name}. I knew she always went out of her way to help Elizabeta, Victoria, and myself, I knew there would not be any objections if I set up a perfect Plan B to get Lovino to confess to {Name}. I slowly climbed down the boulder to let the two of them have their privacy.

I was so glad that they both got the ending they had wanted.

~Epilogue~
|Few Weeks After the End Of the Road Trip|

“It’s a simple sport, {Name}. You hit the birdie across the net. It’s like tennis, but no bouncing.” Mei was next to me, explaining the rules of this ‘simple sport’.

“Look, badminton is simple,” Lili was spending time at my house as Vasch stayed for an extra week in Switzerland and was the one who insisted on playing badminton in my large, open yard. Considering we had found an old volleyball net in the garage, we just used some sticks to make the perfect badminton net. “You call out the score, serve to the person diagonal, they hit it back, and so it goes until someone misses. And you can only get the point if you are serving.”

“See, simple!”

I glared over at Mei before lightly hitting her with my badminton racket. “You forget, I don’t like sports.”

“Please {Name}? We can play doubles if Elizabeta joins, or Victoria once she finished preparing our drinks!” Lili looked over at me from the other side of the net and I looked over at Elizabeta, who was enjoying my deck and the nice reading seats under the umbrella. But before I called her over, a car came into the driveway.

“Who’s that, {Name}?” Lili asked, as she had not been kept up on the latest happenings.

“Lili, {Name} has a boyfriend! They’ve been going out since the last day of the road trip. You should’ve seen them on the way back!” Mei giggled and made sure she was just out of my reach. “{Name} began falling asleep, and when she did, Lovino made sure she was comfortable while leaning on his shoulder. His face was so red!”

“Bella, is your little brat spreading rumours again?” Lovino asked, hugging me from behind.

“Lovino, Mei’s not a little brat. She just likes teasing you and how much of an idiot you were during the trip!”

“You can’t just tell the girl you like that you bought a necklace that she’d like so she might go out with you! It doesn’t work that way!”

Elizabeta sighed, along with Victoria, who had heard most of the conversation. “You are never going to live that down.”

“He said he had bought that necklace for some girl here, and just wanted her opinion on it!” Mei explained to Lili.

“That’s cruel!” Lili looked over to Lovino. “How could you do such a thing?”

Lovino sighed. “How do you deal with them? They’re worse than mio fratello.”

“Aw, don’t be like that Lovi, they’re just having a bit of fun. Why are you here anyway?”

“First, don’t call me Lovi! The tomato bastard can’t call me that, and you can’t either! And do I need a reason to visit my girlfriend?” Lovino gave me a quick kiss on the forehead, making our audience ‘Aww’. “Come on, can you leave the girls for a bit? Go on a quick date?”

“Well, Lili’s here and-”

Mei turned me around and started pushing me towards Lovino and his car. “I did not do all this work for you to not to go out! Go out to a movie, get food, have fun! I’ll watch Lili and the house for you.”

I gave Mei a quick hug. “I owe you one.”

“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” Mei and Lili waved goodbye to us as Elizabeta and Victoria raised their drinks in goodbye.

As I fastened my seatbelt, Lovino looked over at me and sighed. “Those girls will never let that dumbass mistake go, huh?”

“It’s okay, they’re just like teasing us.” I leaned over and gave Lovino a kiss on the cheek.

“So where would you like to go, bella?”

“A movie sounds great. Mei was going to sleep over anyway, so I can trust her and Lili together.”

“My place? Mio idiota fratello is staying at the potato bastard’s house for the week.”

“As long I don’t do anything Mei wouldn’t do,” I sang, teasing him as I normally do.

Lovino pulled in front of the red light, and leaned over to kiss me on the lips. When we parted, he played with the piece of jewelry that hung around my neck. “That sounds very tempting though.”

Paise all that is holy and unholy...I'M DONE!!...The epilogue was finished before this part was. I had several ideas, but once again, ~claireveronika sent me a very good idea, and this new version was born *cue dramatic music*.
I liked writing this, because Mei finally was able to show off her master plan she had for a very long time. If you read the past fanfics, at the Hollow, Mei does tell you of a plan, and here it was!

I thought this would be a longer part, but all long ideas flew out the window when I was working on the epilogue. And so, I made this and the epilogue be in the same place. Think of it as an Easter present.
I hope you all enjoyed this final part. I was writing that final confession while listening to Vienna Teng, and I started crying. Every single thought that came out, I wrote out. Every little reference, and every part I loved the most came out. Oh Lovino....

I have never had the chance to light fireworks, but I watched videos, so I hope that was accurate.

Please comment!! I want to know if I did a good job on characters! All comments will help me get started on my next fanfic!!

Thank you in advanced for reading this series! All comments made so happy everytime I logged on. Your comments helped me push through and this this long this done! *bows* Grazie Mille~!!!

That moment when the cheeky Italian you're reading about sounds like the cheeky Italian you're dating. Great story by the way, I loved it! 💙
